Here's an easy way to support the JCHS Band!

DirecTV 4 Schools logo
Would you like to help our band raise money without even leaving the comfort of your favorite chair? DirecTV has developed a program called DirecTV for Schools. Through this program, our band can earn $100.00 for every new customer and $50 for every existing DirecTV customer that comits to one year of service.

To participate, call 1-888-388-4724 and mention our school code A1458. When you order and activate a one-year subscription, as a new customer, DirecTV will credit our band $100.00.If you are a current customer and you commit to another year of service, our band will be credited $50.00. Simply call 1-888-388-4724 and remember to mention our school code, A1458.

The school code is valid for anyone in the continental United States. Please share this information with your friends and family across the nation. Many people have had DirecTV service for years. Why not let your TV service help us earn the funds that we need to support our band!

The funds raised by this promotion are distributed twice a year to our program. The money will be used to help defray many of the expenses that we incur. Some of those are music fees, copyright fees, Indiana Music Educator's Association fees and festivals, busses, competition fees for the band, color guard, and winter drumline, summer staff, and many others.

So, please, take a minute of your day and help us earn funds to support our activities. To participate, please call 1-888-388-4724 using our school code, A1458. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call Carolyn Carducci at 260-726-4151. Thank you for your support.

Great camp, Jay County

Welcome home Marching Patriots! Congratulations on a successful week of camp! Your positive attitudes, desire and hunger for excellence, and attention to details all made our work possible. Our show has improved LEAPS AND BOUNDS over last week.

You should be proud of the way that you represented Jay County High School and the entire Jay County Community.

Before you all forget about the things running in your mind, share your thoughts... How do you think camp went overall? Did you enjoy the various activities? What could we do to make the week even better?

Special thanks to the folks at Miami University who so willingly help make our camp so successful and enjoyable!

Kentucky Derby Festival

The Patriot Band and Guard will perform on May 1, 2008 in the 53rd Pegasus Parade for the Kentucky Derby. Here is some information on the Parade.

Mac King has followed a more traditional path to success. Growing up in Louisville's Cherokee Park area, he was inspired by his grandfathers — Elwood Huffman and Pax King — both keen amateur magicians. He joined the Louisville Magic Club at age 14. Mac was recently named "Magician of the Year" by the Magic Castle in Hollywood, and he is the only performer to be featured in all five of NBC TV's "World's Greatest Magicians" specials. Currently, Mac can be seen in The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrah's Las Vegas.

Other parade celebrities included Kate Flannery of NBC's "The Office," Milena Govich of NBC's "Law and Order," Navi Rawat of CBS' "NUMB3RS," April Bowlby of CBS' "Two and a Half Men," actor and comedian J. Anthony Brown and Kate Linder of CBS' "The Young and the Restless."

Also returning from the sixth straight year was "Absolutely Pegasus," the character balloon being carried down the route by parade sponsor Republic Bank & Trust Company. The symbol of the Kentucky Derby Festival contains more than 6,000 cubic feet of helium.

Supporters of Kosair Charities were cheering down the parade route as their float took home the Sweepstakes Award for best overall float. Sustainable Louisville was awarded the Grand Prize Award (Best Overall — Self Built), Kentucky State Fair Board took the Festival's Chairman's Award and the Parade Chairman's Award for Best Overall — Commercial Built went to Grand Lodge of Kentucky.

Eleven floats and eight inflatable characters joined equestrian units and marching bands from across the country. Seneca Valley High School from Pennsylvania took top honors in the AT&T Real Yellow Pages Battle of the Bands competition. Calloway County High School of Kentucky finished second in the voting, followed by Jasper High School of Jasper, IN.
