My e-mail to Representative Bill Davis - for what it's worth!

Needless to say, I'm not happy with the education reforms that were signed into law this past session, especially in light of the fact that I have a daughter who will soon be looking for a job in the area of fine arts education. Although I hope the legislation wasn't meant as such, it has turned out to be an attack on the fine arts programs at many schools in favor of math and language arts. At this point in time, I see my daughter's best prospect to be looking out of state for employment. Remember, if we take away the fine arts, we take away the soul of the school and some day, when a language arts teacher asks students to do a creative writing assignment, they'll have nothing to write about!

Proud to Be a Patriot

2010 trophy

August 6, 2010 will be a night to remember for many years to come in the hearts and minds of the Marching Patriots. Although it didn't necessarily end where many of us feel it should have ended, one thing is for certain... We have so much to be proud of.

There is much to be said about a group of teenagers from all parts of the county that unite together under the colors of red, white, and blue to represent their school, their families, and their communities with one purpose in mind... creating a performance to remember. And this year, we did just that!

Last night in Indianapolis one thing was most evident at the Patriot camp: the pride of being a Patriot truly lies in our hearts. The testimonies of the veteran band and guard members speak volumes to the many blessings that come into our lives under the disguise of music notes, drill charts, and flag work. The many friendships and memories formed throughout the summer will be what you remember for years to come. It is experiences such as these that form who we are and what we become.

Always remember that moment when we crossed the finish line and the incredible feelings and excitement you felt after performing our show to the best of our ability. Remember looking to your right and your left and being surrounded by your classmates and friends that helped make all of this possible. Remember all of the many sacrifices your parents make to support you in this endeavor. Remember all of those in our community that so generously supported this organization through countless means. Always remember to be proud of the red, white, and blue that runs through our veins and unites us with each other!

Thank you for a most memorable summer! We are always and forever THE JAY COUNTY MARCHING PATRIOTS!!
